Diocese of Des Moines Facebook page- ”Thanks to Mercy Medical Center for providing this image from Africa, taken of Msgr. Frank Bognanno celebrating Mass on the eve of the Epiphany. The service, attended by Catholics, Christians, Jews and Muslims, was for a group of cancer survivors and caregivers, including Msgr. Bognanno, who are climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.”

Interesting article on what may become Africa’s newest nation, and how the Church is giving a voice to the people
Did I really just read an excellent article about the Church in the LOS ANGELES TIMES?!?! WOW… I did!
Great read, check it out. Love the line “rocks in the river”.
Reporter George Weigel with a fantastic piece on the lastest papal media storm.
It’s incredibly ironic that the secular media criticizes the Church, the largest charitable organization in the world, on its stance on condoms, which actually do little to prevent the spread of AIDS. Afterall, people sometimes don’t use condoms (either they are drunk, run out and have sex anyways, etc), and condoms can fail.
There does seem to be an inherent racism within the “controversy”, with the media assuming that Africans must be sex-crazed freaks, and all we can do is have them put on condoms. Rather than encourage monogamy and fidelity to a single spouse.
Anyways check out the read its very good.
